The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office identified two young boys who drowned after falling into Waldo Lake in Brockton.
Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz says 12-year-old Tiago Depina and 13-year-old Rafael Andrande drowned after falling into the lake at D.W. Field Park. The boys are cousins from Brockton.
Police started receiving 911 calls that the children had disappeared from view around 7:30 on Saturday night.
Early investigation indicates the boys were skipping rocks in shallow water, when one of them fell into a section with a steep drop off. His cousin tried to rescue him and they both went under water. They did not know how to swim. Family members and police officers entered the water, but they could not locate the boys.
The Plymouth County Dive team responded to the scene, and the boys were located in a separate area of the lake more than an hour later. CPR and life-saving measures were performed on the boys. Both were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
State and Brockton Police are investigating the incident, but foul play is not suspected.
