The Cohasset Police Department says a woman suffered serious injuries after a fiery crash at West Corner.
Police Chief William Quigley says they received numerous 9-1-1 calls reporting the crash Saturday afternoon.
A 2007 Mercedes Benz, driven by a 65-year-old woman, crashed into a stone wall and caught fire.
“When officers arrived, the victim was out of the vehicle, she had been pulled from the wreckage by some witnesses and bystanders,” said Quigley. “She was clear of the vehicle when officers arrived there. They concentrated on trying to knock down some of the fire with fire extinguishers from their cruisers, because the car was less than five feet from the home at 241 Hull Street.”
The Hingham and Cohasset Fire Departments responded to the scene. The driver of the vehicle, a 65-year-old woman, was transported to South Shore Hospital with serious injuries. She was transferred to a Boston hospital.
Quigley says speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash. A complaint was filed in Quincy District Court.
“She’s being charged with Operating to Endanger, Operating Under the Influence of Liquor, Speeding, and Failure to Drive within Marked Lanes,” said Quigley.
There was substantial damage to the stone wall outside the home. The home was in the process of being sold, there was some damage due to heat and smoke from the vehicle fire.
