The State Senate passes a $47.7 billion budget for Fiscal Year 2022.
After three days of deliberation and adding over $63 million in targeted investments, the Senate unanimously passed the budget Thursday.
Understanding that the health care safety net has been strained by the pandemic, the Senate’s budget invests over $1 billion to support mental and behavioral health initiatives.
It also funds MassHealth at a total of $18 billion, to provide residents with comprehensive health care coverage.
In addition, 5.5-billion is put towards chapter 70 education funding, 50-million for adult basic education services, 195-million for Emergency Assistance Family Shelters, and 94 million for Regional Transit Authorities.
Differences between the Senate budget and the version passed by the House of Representatives last month are expected to be reconciled through a Conference Committee.
