The Scituate Police Department says “Boo Boo” the bear was located in town this morning.
Working with Environmental Police and the State Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, the Scituate Police Department say they do not plan on intervening. The bear, which has been spotted in Hanson, Halifax, Pembroke, and around Bristol County, and is seeking a suitable habitat and mate. Police say neither is likely to be found in Scituate, and the bear will likely move on.
Residents should take measures to keep the bear away from their properties, such as securing trash, cleaning grills, and removing bird feeders. If people encounter the bear, people should keep distance and not chase it.
Sightings do not need to be reported, but if the situation becomes hazardous, people are urged to call 911 or their local police department.
State environmental police will only relocate the bear if there’s a hazardous situation, which is not currently the case.
