At the end of his shift Tuesday, Plymouth Police Chief Mike Botieri said goodbye.
WATD’s Charles Mathewson has this report.
Police and fire departments call it a walk away ceremony – it happens when a well-respected chief retires. It happened for Plymouth Police Chief Mike Botieri yesterday. He began as a patrol officer 36 years ago. As chief, he originated several new divisions in the department – motorcycles, bicycles, mounted, and most significantly, the street crimes unit. He put a stop to arrests of overdosing addicts, directing them to treatment rather than jail, but increased arrests of distributors. He helped avoid rioting last spring when he pledged to treat all citizens equally and knelt with Black Lives Matter protesters. A continuous line of retired officers and chiefs from Plymouth County visited the Plymouth department Tuesday. Then all chatter on police radios stopped.
Administrative Captain Dana Flynn begins today as Interim Chief.
