A Pride Celebration is planned in Hanover tonight at Forge Pond Park.
The event starts at 6 p.m. at Forge Pond Park in Hanover, located at 245 King Street.
Darcie Edwards, a member of the Hanover Unity Council and Hanover Pride, says the event is titled “Don’t Hide the Pride.”
“People shouldn’t need to hide who they are. No matter what their sexual orientation, gender identity, no one should have to hide who they are,” said Edwards. “We’re saying you don’t have to hide in this community. We see you, we want to show that everybody is visible.”
The event was organized after a student tore down a pride flag from the high school cafeteria.
In the wake of the incident, Edwards organized the event with Town Manager Joe Colangelo and the Board of Selectmen.
They’re planning activities to bring people together – with food trucks, music, and Pride speakers.
A Pride stroll starts at 7 p.m. around the inside perimeter of the park.
“Overall, it’s bringing people together to show support and just be able to socialize and just reach out to each other,” said Edwards.
