Lion’s Mane Jellyfish Sightings in Hull
— WATD 95.9 News & Talk Radio, South Shore Massachusetts
Hull Deputy Fire Chief William Frazier says there have been sightings of the lion’s mane jellyfish in local waters.
As one of the world’s largest jellyfish, it has an orange/brown belly that can grow up to six feet wide.
Tentacles can grow more than 100 feet.
Frazier says the sting can be painful, and has the potential to cause an allergic reaction that could require medical treatment.
He says if people see the jellyfish, they should exit the water. People should not attempt to move it from the beach, as it can still sting out of the water.
If people are stung, tentacles should not be removed with bare hands.
People should seek medical attention if they have any signs of a severe reaction.
