In Plymouth, Thursday night, about 150 supporters crowded the American Legion Hall to kick off Charlie Bletzer’s campaign for the seat on the Select Board vacated last month by Shelagh Joyce.
Bobbi Clark has more:
Candidate Charlie Bletzer was introduced by series of people: former Senate President Terry Murray, former State Senator Vinny deMacedo, State Resentive Matt Muratore and former Selectman Bill Hallisey. Bletzer is concerned that residential taxes are too high and says the answer is commercial growth:
“We need to identify in 106 square miles of land that we have to find areas of land that’s inviting for businesses to come commercially and develop. We have to zone those commercial only. And then we need the height restrictions—they’re antiquated at 65 feet. I talked to the Fire Chief, he says if the buildings are engineered properly we have the apparatus to fight any emergencies, any fires in those buildings. So there’s no reason not to put those in our industrial parks.”
Bletzer says we also need to make it easier for businesses to come to Plymouth:
“When they go to Town Hall, they should be able to get a booklet, a guide—checklist of what you have to do. We’ve got to make it easier for them. Last thing, is we need somebody that’s recruiting businesses to Plymouth. I know the Economic Development Corp does it—but that’s private. We need somebody from Plymouth, that’s on the Plymouth payroll to actively be recruiting businesses to come to Plymouth.”
The special election is August 14th. In Plymouth, Bobbi Clark, WATD News.
