In Plymouth, good news from U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo who notified town officials of an Economic Development Administration, or EDA grant, of over three million dollars. This, to make needed water infrastructure improvements to attract new industries and jobs.
Bobbi Clark has more.
Town Manager Melissa Arrighi talks about the huge amount of money awarded to the town in the wake of the closure of the Entergy-Pilgrim Nuclear Power plant:
“I love that you said huge amount of money because it certainly is. It’s three point eight two five million dollars for our Plymouth-Manomet water infrastructure improvement project.”
The EDA grant is to be matched with one point three million in local funds and is expected to create over three thousand jobs and generate five point nine million in private investment.
Part of the intent of the federal grant is to help grow the local economy following the closure of the power plant:
“I think they took a look at some of the impact that we’ve talked about pretty publicly and written about, that the closing of the plant will have on local businesses, on employees. So I think they looked at that and part of the reason they graded us so highly on the grant.”
