A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to prison on gun charges. The charges stem from a traffic stop in Duxbury last year.
Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz says 20-year-old William O’Brien of Manchester-by-the-Sea pleaded guilty to six charges that include two counts of Carrying a Loaded Firearm and Permitting Operation of a Motor Vehicle by an Unlicensed Operator.
Yesterday, Plymouth Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Locke sentenced O’Brien to 2 and 1/2 years in prison, followed by two years of probation.
In October of 2020, Duxbury conducted a traffic stop of a BMW that had a headlight out. O’Brien was the passenger of that vehicle. The operator, a juvenile, had a suspended license.
Before the vehicle was towed from the scene, police conducted an inventory. An officer noticed an open backpack which was by O’Brien’s feet. A loaded semi-auto pistol was located in that bag.
O’Brien told police that he had another firearm on his person, and police found a loaded revolver.
When police requested his license to carry, he said he did not have one, and was arrested.
