The Marshfield Harbormaster rescued a paddleboarder after they drifted out to sea near Old Beach Road Friday afternoon.
Marshfield lifeguard Charlie Simpson said lifeguards on duty were monitoring an unoccupied tube before the incident just before 3 p.m.
“At the crossroads between Fieldston and Sunrise Beach, there was a kiddie tube that was floating out towards sea due to the offshore winds,” said Simpson. “During this time, we were constantly monitoring its status.”
Around the same time, Simpson said he and co-worker Dylan Ward responded to reports of a kayaker in distress near Sunrise Beach. Simpson said a paddle boarder then attempted to retrieve the tube.
“A 25-year-old adult male decided to float out on his board to go retrieve the tube,” said Simpson. “But as soon as he got it, he found out he wasn’t able to swim back due to the offshore winds.”
The Fieldston lifeguards called the Marshfield Harbormaster to help the man, who was brought back to shore safely.
