The Department of Agricultural Resources is alerting residents about an invasive species of moth in boxwood plants.
A number of nurseries in the state received Canadian boxwood plants that were potentially infested with box tree moths. The moths are native to Asia, and are a pest in Canada and Europe.
For people who purchased boxwood plants this spring, state officials say residents should inspect them for signs of the moth.
Signs include eggs, caterpillars, and adult moths on the plants. Pockets of webbing can be found within the boxwood leaves.
