First responders from Kingston and surrounding towns gathered at the Silver Lake High School for the return of National Night Out.
While last year’s event was cancelled due to COVID-19, Kingston Police Sergeant Scott Morgan says this was a way to thank the community for their support.
“I think everybody needs this right now, and we love to see everybody out here,” said Morgan. “You can see all the kids running around, everybody is having a great time. All the officers that come down are having a great time. Everyone looks forward to this each year.”
When it first began, National Night Out was held with just a few vehicles in front of the police station. It’s grown into a much larger event, K-9 demonstrations, motorcycle obstacle courses, and much more. This was the 33rd Annual event in Kingston.
“It’s good to finally be out and share the safety message with the community after two long years of not being able to do that,” said Deputy Kingston Fire Chief Adam Hatch.
Hundreds of people got to check out ladder trucks, coast guard boats, and SWAT units.
Pembroke Fire Chief Ken McCormick was helping kids into the town’s ladder truck. He was asked if there were any new recruits.
“I can see a couple that are vying for my job already, it’s really good to see,” said McCormick. “They’re excited, parents are excited, pictures are being taken. It’s good to see everybody finally out.”
