In Plymouth, the Chairman of the Board of Health says the CDC recently announced that Plymouth County is now at high risk for transmission of the delta variant of the corona virus.

Day or two ago, the CDC announced that Plymouth County was now red, or high risk for transmission of the delta variant, and also the delta variant is now causing about 93.4% of the cases in the United States and probably something on the order of about 81 to 86% of the cases here in Plymouth.”
And, Potvin says the delta variant is more transmissible:
“The delta variant is known to be at least twice as infectious as as the previous variant, which was the alpha variant. They think that the delta variant is actually capable of producing rather large numbers of virus particles in the nasal passages and throats of infected individuals.”
Chairman Potvin, says even though delta doesn’t cause severe illness if …
“…you’re fully vaccinated—you can then spread it to others. And a lot of studies have shown that you may be able to infect, on average, about 5 people.”
So what is the next step?
“At our next meeting, which will be on the 25th of August, is probably going to discuss again, whether or not we should put in place a mask mandate for indoor spaces—at the moment it’s just an advisory.”
