In Plymouth, a copy of Town Manager Melissa Arrighi’s amended contract, which concludes her service almost a year earlier than planned, reveals that she is indeed entitled to receive severance pay, contrary to what was previously stated by the Chair of the Select Board.

Select Board Chairman Dick Quintal:
“It allows her one month salary for every year served as Town Manager upon involuntary exit. The amendment that we did actually amends section 5 to be voluntary or involuntary. And the reason I couldn’t say that when we did our last interview is we had a 7 day grace period until the agreements were actually signed.”
Selectman Quintal says he’s free to talk now because…
“…it’s signed.”
The change in language to voluntary or involuntary is significant. The Town Manager volunteered to leave a year early, so…
“…she’s allowed one month’s time for every year served as Town Manager, up to six months—it can’t go over that. And that’s at the rate of pay she’s making now, not what would have been the last year of her contract.”
The Town Manager’s pay rate now is…
“…two hundred and twenty-one thousand, seven hundred dollars per year—so, you’d have to cut that in half.”
Also, in the amended Section 5 is new language that seems to protect both parties from legal action:
“Yes, so it’s protection language in the amendment for both sides at this time.”
