In Plymouth on Friday, the check was not in the mail, but delivered personally to town officials by the County Treasurer—and that check totaled more than $3.969 million dollars. These are CARES Act funds, administered by the County, and represent reimbursement for money the town has already spent.

The presentation ceremony included county and town officials and took place in front of town hall. Lynne Barrett is Plymouth’s Finance Director:
“These were costs that were incurred during our school year, and the past year for remote learning, for our PPE, for disinfecting, including our buildings, to deal with the pandemic.”
Barrett says this is not the first reimbursement:
“This is, I believe, our 3rd reimbursement, and we have a couple of more that we’re going to be working on, but this is one that we submitted in January, and we’re receiving the check today.”
Selectman Chairman Dick Quintal:
“We’re very fortunate to get it, especially in these times. I’d like to say thank you on behalf of the Town of Plymouth.”
The CARES Act was passed in March of 2020 and, says County Treasurer Tom O’Brien…
…”we’ve been administering the program now for a little more than a year and a half and we understood that we could do this—which would get more money back to our communities—faster.”
Commissioner Sandra Wright:
“A lot of communities didn’t want us to manage the CARES Act, I believe we made a good decision. I think it’s helped our communities in so many different ways.”
