South Shore towns are planning ceremonies to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, some towns are not hosting formal ceremonies.
Abington
Friday at 9:15 p.m. at the Abington 9/11 memorial in front of the police station. A candlelight vigil will be held, with parking available at the town barn, next to the police station.
Braintree
Saturday at 8:30 a.m., ceremony in front of the Fire Department Headquarters.
Bridgewater
Saturday at 8:30 a.m., bell-tolling ceremony will take place on the common in the center of town, with the honor guard.
Brockton
Saturday at 8:30 a.m., ceremony planned with honor guard in front of Brockton City Hall.
Carver
Saturday at 8:30 a.m., apparatus will be pulled in front of the fire station, and a flag lowering ceremony will take place.
Cohasset
Saturday at 9 a.m. on the Town Common, ceremony with the police and fire department honor guard.
Duxbury
Saturday at 8:30 a.m., dedication of the 9/11 memorial in front of the Fire Station. Parking available at the senior center.
East Bridgewater
Saturday ceremony at 8:45 a.m. at the 9/11 memorial next to Town Hall.
Halifax
A ceremony will take place Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Fire Station with a bell-tolling ceremony.
Hanover
On Saturday at 8:30 a.m., a ceremony will be held at the Hanover Veterans Memorial on Hanover Street. A moment of silence will follow at 9 a.m.
Hanson
The Saturday on-duty fire department shift will lower flags and will pull apparatus in front of the station at 8:30 a.m.
Hingham
Saturday at 10 a.m., a ceremony with the town’s Veterans’ Services, Police and Fire Departments will host a ceremony at the Fire Headquarters at 339 Main Street.
Hull
Saturday remembrance ceremony at the Bernie King Pavilion on Hull Shore Drive at 7 p.m.
Kingston
Saturday at 8:30 a.m., the Police and Fire Departments will host a ceremony at the Pembroke Street Fire Station with an exhibit and refreshments.
Marshfield
Saturday at 9:30 a.m., remembrance ceremony at the Fire Department Headquarters on South River Street with a bell toll and moment of silence.
Milton
Vigil planned on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Town Green/Gazebo with words of remembrance and song. NYPD Sgt. Supervisor Brian Coughlan will be the guest speaker.
Norwell
A small ceremony will be held Saturday at the flag pole in front of the public safety complex on Washington Street at 9:45 a.m.
Pembroke
Saturday morning ceremony will take place in front of the fire station.
Plymouth
Saturday ceremony starts at 9:30 a.m., with the Hollybriar Bagpipers forming at Fire Station 7 on Hedge Road. They will march to the 9/11 Memorial on South Spooner Street and form up with the Honor Guard. Speakers include local representatives and retired New York Firefighter Mike Kennedy. A bell tolling will take place.
Plympton
Ceremony in front of the Police and Fire Stations on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. Open house to follow at the fire station with touch-a-truck, barbeque, and demonstrations.
Quincy
Saturday dedication of new Generals Bridge and park at 10 a.m. in Quincy Center at General Dunford Drive and General McConville Way. At 10 a.m., flag ceremony will take place at the Quincy Fire Department.
Randolph
Saturday ceremony at 9:30 a.m. at the Randolph Elks Lodge 9/11 memorial.
Rockland
Saturday ceremony at 9 a.m. in front of Rockland Town Hall.
Scituate
Saturday ceremony at 9:55 at Fire Station 1 Headquarters on First Parish Road.
Weymouth
Saturday ceremony at 9:30 at King Oak Hill Park, off Emery Lane. Police and Fire memorial softball game takes place at 5 p.m. at Libby Field.
West Bridgewater
Ceremony on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the West Bridgewater 9/11 Memorial Park.
Whitman
Saturday ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. at the Town Park Lower Field on the corner of Maple and Park Avenue.
