Braintree Police, SWAT teams, and numerous agencies are in South Braintree Square for a barricaded man.
Police Chief Mark Dubois gave an update on the incident.
“At 9:25 this morning, we received a phone call from a resident at a multi-family residence on Holbrook Ave. One of the other residents brandished a firearm and threatened the victim. Officers arrived on scene, the suspect returned to his room – this is a 20-unit apartment building,” said Dubois. “He returned to his room and made threatening statements to the officers, while the door was closed, and made several actions with a firearm that the officers believed that he had with him.”
Police evacuated the building, and the MetroLEC SWAT team responded, along with Quincy and Braintree Police.
Traffic was being diverted off Washington Street near the CVS in South Braintree Square.
Dubois says they have the scene contained – but they’re asking people to avoid the area.
“Since that time we have not had any communication with this subject. He has prior mental health calls, so we believe that is the driver behind this,” said Dubois. “We’ve been actively trying to engage in any type of communication with him though crisis negotiators, through our mental health clinician that works with the Braintree Police Department, with zero response at this point. So, we’re making every attempt possible to engage in communication before anything else takes place.”
