A Coast Guard Station in Scituate will remain open.
Congressman Stephen Lynch released a joint statement from himself, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Edward Markey, and Congressman Bill Keating saying that the United States Coast Guard has “decided to maintain operations of Station Scituate and officially rescinded their proposal to close the station.”
Congressman Bill Keating tells WATD News that certain arguments in particular resonated with Coast Guard leadership.
Keating says there are security concerns as well.
The Coast Guard originally proposed the closure of the seasonal station as part of an effort to consolidate redundant Coast Guard Boat Stations, which would net an estimated savings of around $10,000.
