In Plymouth, creating a new position, the Planning Board names Vice Chair of the group, Birgitta Kuehn, liaison to the Board of Health.
WATD’s Bobbi Clark has the story:
Birgitta Kuehn says the Planning Board has a long history of choosing members..
“…for other boards, by Charter, and also members as liaisons such as all of our village steering committees, the Community Preservation Committee, the Building Committee, the Roads Advisory Committee .”
And, Kuehn says, last week the Planning Board voted unanimously…
“…that I would serve as the Planning Board’s liaison to the Board of Health. We begin to understand that the Board of Health and the Planning Board are literally, collaboratively required to work together by Massachusetts general law and also by the grants that are collaborative grants between these two boards.”
So, in practice, how does the liaison position work?
“The position is similar to an alternate position. It is a full position on the Board, but it does not vote, similar to an alternate and it does not fill a quorum.”
Concerning the alternate position on the Board of Health, Kuehn says she, along with a number of other residents, a week ago, applied for that role, but she withdrew her application:
“I realized that the liaison position would actually fulfill the goals of the Planning Board to the Board of Health and not limit the number of volunteers that we could have on the Board of Health.”
