In Plymouth, congestion on Clyfton Street, a residential street downtown that feeds into busy Court Street, continues to be an issue.

This, even though on the advice of the Parking & Traffic Task Force, the Select Board voted last summer to take a first step approach by simply delineating where parking can and cannot occur.  But, recently the DPW’s work to begin that process was halted.

Bobbi Clark has more…

Selectman Harry Helm explains:

“We did vote to delineate parking spaces on Clyfton Street and we voted on that in July. At the September 28th meeting, a resident came and had a petition from residents of Clyfton Street asking us basically, without saying it, asked us to reconsider our vote and instead of delineating parking spaces declare Clyfton Street one-way.”

And at that September 28th meeting, the petitioner, Clyfton Street resident Edward Smith, told the Select Board, that there is strong opposition to the delineation plan.  But, the DPW had already begun drawing the white lines to define the parking areas:

“Yes, it was in progress and, it is my opinion, my belief, that the fact that it was in progress and they could begin to see what was happening caused them to create this petition.”

The Board has not yet set a date to hear the matter again but, says Helm, both sides will be heard:

“…the people who are in favor of the delineation of the parking spots are going to speak as well. It will be determined whether or not there will be a reconsideration at that point.”
