School officials tell WATD News that the student approached a staff member Friday morning and informed them they had a weapon.
The gun was voluntarily turned over and the student was taken into custody.
A sweep of the building was conducted as a safety precaution.
No one was injured and officials say parents were notified.
Students at the high school also had an early dismissal at noon.
