Two people were hospitalized following a crash in Cohasset involving a motorcycle and an SUV.
Cohasset Police say that at around 6 p.m. Tuesday officers and fire crews responded to reports of a crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle at the intersection of Route 3A and Sohier St.
Officers helped the motorcyclist while members of the Fire Department used hydraulic tools to lift the SUV off him.
The motorcyclist, described as a 24-year-old man from Scituate, sustained life-threatening traumatic injuries and was transported to South Shore Hospital and later transferred to a Boston area hospital for surgery.
The driver of the SUV, identified as a 58-year-old man from Dorchester, sustained minor injuries and was also transported to South Shore Hospital.
Police say a section of Route 3A between Lower King St. and Stop and Shop was closed for about 3-hours while police investigated the crash and officers from Hingham helped detour traffic during the rush hour.
The crash is under investigation by Cohasset Police and the Massachusetts State Police Crash and Reconstruction Section (CARS).
No charges have been filed at this time, and police say speed does not appear to factor in this crash.
