The human bone fragments recently found in the area of Loon Mountain in Lincoln, New Hampshire, thought to possibly be those of missing Hanson native Maura Murray, are not hers.
The New Hampshire State Police posted an update today.
Julie Murray, Maura’s sister, says it’s disappointing not to have answers.
“I was notified today, through the New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General’s Office that the radiocarbon dating of the bone fragments found, date back to between 1774 and 1942,” said Julie Murray.
New Hampshire State Police say based on the results of the testing, the bone fragments do not appear to be related to any open missing person case or recent criminal activity.
“The New Hampshire State Police issued a press release saying it was an adult female or a small-statured male,” said Murray.
Maura Murray, a 21-year-old nursing student, seemingly vanished on February 9th, in 2004 after a car accident in New Hampshire.
“The waiting was really difficult; it’s been about two months now since we first got word that the bones were discovered. Through that time, we’ve gone through a wide range of emotions,” said Julie Murray. “Hearing this news today, personally I feel a little bit deflated, a little bit heartbroken that we don’t have any answers. It just means for my family, that we need to continue to search. Hopefully it will bring some peace to whoever’s family these remains belong to.”
