State Senator Diana DiZoglio (D-First Essex) joined WATD to discuss her campaign for State Auditor.
DiZoglio was first elected as State Representative in the 14th Essex District in 2012, and was elected to the State Senate in 2018.
She discusses growing up in Methuen and Lawrence as the daughter of a single mother, working in the hospitality industry, and serving as a legislative aide in her mid-20’s.
DiZoglio said she was sexually harassed while serving as an aide, and was required to a non-disclosure agreement funded by taxpayers.
She wants to use the Office of the State Auditor to ensure there is more accountability with state and public offices, such as using her experience to shed light on NDAs, and investigate their use in state agencies to hide potential abuse or corruption.
She wants to investigate the state’s handling of the Holyoke Soldiers Home, where 70 veterans died during the coronavirus pandemic. DiZoglio expressed frustration with contracts that were given to support mass-vaccination sites, and as a Senator called for an investigation into how taxpayer funds were spent on no-bid contracts, rather than local communities.
