Seven South Shore teams will descend upon Gillette Stadium for Super Bowl games next week
It’s official!
After the South Shore shined this weekend, seven area schools are set to return to Gillette Stadium for Super Bowl games during the first week of December.
Three separate games will be contested between league opponents; the first time such an occurrence is possible with the new statewide tournament format.
Division 8: Hull (9-2) vs Randolph (7-4)

Two South Shore League Tobin Division opponents will meet in the first of eight Super Bowls contested next week.
Randolph, a Cinderella story coming off of a 1-5 Fall II season in the spring, is the lowest seed in any division to make the Super Bowl as the 10-seed. This will be the Blue Devils first ever Super Bowl appearance.
Hull, who knocked off top-seeded Hoosac Valley 39-22 in the semifinals, will make their first appearance in a state title game in 25 years, dating back to a 20-15 defeat of Bishop Fenwick in the 1996 Division 4B Super Bowl.
These two teams have met once already this season, with Hull emerging victorious 26-6 on Oct. 1.
Division 7: Cohasset (8-2) vs Wahconah (11-0)
Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m. | 101.1 WBMS-FM, 1460 AM; “Stream WBMS” on 95.9WATD.COM
Cohasset is the lone South Shore team to be facing off against an out-of-area team at Gillette this year. After knocking off Mashpee 14-8 on Friday night, Cohasset watched as top-seeded and undefeated Wahconah earned their Gillette appearance with a 22-7 win over Northbridge.
The Skippers, as the six-seed, are the second lowest seeded team to make a Super Bowl this year.
Division 6: Abington (10-1) vs Rockland (9-1)
Friday, Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. | 95.9 WATD; “Stream WATD” on 95.9WATD.COM
What more can be said about this game? Two archrivals, who this year moved into the same division, as well as the same side of the South Shore League, meeting for a second time on the season on the biggest stage possible.
In a storied rivalry which has had too many consequential meetings to count, there has never been a bigger game than this.
Abington used a second half surge to get past St. Mary’s on Friday night, before watching Rockland edge out Blackstone Valley on Saturday afternoon.
If all goes well for Rockland on Thanksgiving, these two teams will meet at Gillette as co-champions of the SSL Sullivan Division.
There can only be one state champion, though.
Rockland won the prior matchup 17-7 on Coach Jim Kelleher’s 500th game.
Division 4: Scituate (10-1) vs Duxbury (10-1)
Friday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. | 95.9 WATD; “Stream WATD” on 95.9WATD.COM
One league rivalry game on Monday wasn’t enough to satiate you? How about a second?
Duxbury, the class of the Patriot League, hasn’t been defeated by a league opponent in over 13 years.
The closest scare? A one-point 27-26 win over Scituate earlier this season.
These two teams have been ranked as the top two in Division 4 all year long, and worked their way through a difficult bracket to give South Shore football fans another classic game.
Now, they meet again with a state title hanging in the balance.
