Big changes are coming to the Columbian Square intersection in Weymouth.
Weymouth has hired engineering firm Green International Affiliates to head the project to redesign and make massive safety improvements to the intersection.
Engineer for Green International Bill Scully held a public forum this week and says the purpose of the project is to make the whole intersection safer and more attractive.
Currently the Columbian Square intersection is said to be the most dangerous intersection in Weymouth with no traffic signals.
Improvements will include new traffic lights, expanded sidewalks, benches, new trees and landscaping, also shorter pedestrian crosswalks and better parking.
The price tag for the project is roughly $7 to 8 million dollars according to Scully.
The Columbian Square intersection makeover project is supposed to break early next year and possibly wrap up in early 2024.
