Working fire detectors, alert neighbors, and a UPS driver helped lead to a quick response and knockdown of a house fire in Duxbury.

Deputy Fire Chief Rob Reardon said they were called to Fox Run around 4:30 yesterday afternoon.

“Our crews responded, and on arrival, they forced entry into the house,” said Reardon. “They found a fire that had started on top of the stove, it extended up the cabinetry into the fan up above the kitchen stove.”

Reardon says no one was home at the time of the fire, a Labrador dog got out safely when firefighters arrived.

He says this was not a difficult fire due to the quick response time.

“We actually got it in the incipient stage, so when it was small. But if it had gone anytime longer it would have been much more difficult to deal with,” said Reardon. “A lot of credit to the UPS driver who happened to be right in the area and heard smoke detectors sounding. With neighbors, they notified us via 9-1-1.”

The home is still habitable, but there is water and smoke damage in the kitchen area.
