Fran Marini, a former State Representative, House Minority Leader, and judge has died at the age of 72 after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer.
Marini grew up in Quincy and moved to Hanson at a young age. A 1967 graduate of Whitman-Hanson Regional High School, Marini was part of the 1966 state championship football team. He was hired by the Defense Department in Washington, and received a Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University.
In 1994, he was elected as State Rep. in the 6th Plymouth District after the retirement of his friend, Charlie Mann. In 2002, he was appointed by Governor Jane Swift as the Associate Justice of the Hingham District Court. He spent most of his time at the Taunton District Court. In 2013, he served as the presiding judge at Hingham District Court, until he closed out his career in 2015.
Family members say Marini was “smart, quick-witted, kind, compassionate, and fun to be around.”
Donations in Marini’s name can be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4-7:00 p.m. in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Whitman. His funeral Mass will be on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the Holy Apostle Church in Hanson. A private burial will be held after the service.
