In Plymouth, a new outdoor dining plan has been put in place by Selectman Harry Helm and the Outdoor Dining Working group, which includes: representatives of the planning and health departments, residents, restaurant and retail store owners, the town’s parking plan managers, and a specialist on ADA compliance.

“I think that it was the concept of this group from the very beginning to set up something that was beautiful, something that would not only create a look to Court Street—kind of a European flair, but also one that the residents could be proud of—and say, look, this is what Plymouth is—it’s not a hodge-podge of barriers.”
But, Helm says, along with the look, compliance with ADA, or the American Disabilities Act, had to be considered:
“So, the platforms, between the sidewalk and the edges of the barriers out in the parklet were important. They didn’t have them before. You would step down into the parklet. Now, for ADA compliance. it’s going to be even with the sidewalk.”
The outdoor dining season is April to November, the maximum number of outdoor seating allowed is 29 and there will be a one thousand dollar licensing fee. The Select Board has approved these guidelines.
