The Plympton Police Department is hosting its annual coat drive.
The coats will be donated to the Plymouth Area Coalition for the Homeless, which serves 22 towns. The drive runs through February 13.
Special Police Officer Laicey Ieronimo said they’ve already gotten a strong turnout for donations.
“It’s great to see so many people are donating within the first two, three days of the coat drive,” said Ieronimo. “It just shows how successful this event is going to be, because it’s still running for about three weeks.”
Ieronimo said they work with Sue Giovanetti, Chief Executive Officer of the Plymouth Area Coalition.
“She really lets us know what is needed, and is willing to work with us through every event,” said Ieronimo. “They have a great food pantry that serves the community year-round, and they have different drives throughout the year.”
Officer Kevin Brower says this is the third year they’ve hosted the coat drive. People can off new or gently-used coats in the lobby of the Plympton Police station.
“We’re not only here to protect and serve, but to help in any way we can,” said Brower. “Anytime we can get involved in the community, we jump at the chance. Especially with Officer Ieronimo the last year or so, we’ve gotten more of an opportunity to do so.”
More information can be found on the Plympton Police Facebook and Twitter pages.
“I think this time of year, obviously warmth and something as simple as a coat is something we take for granted,” said Brower. “For those who do have the ability to donate and help out, it’s just a huge help for those who maybe don’t have that luxury.”
