A home in Rockland was extensively damaged after a two-alarm fire.

The Rockland Fire Department responded to 361 West Pleasant Street around 12:30 today.
Deputy Chief Tom Heaney says crews arrived to heavy fire conditions in the garage, extending into the home.
“An initial attack line off the engine provided knock down the fire in the garage, and we extended a second line into the house to check for extension into the house,” said Heaney. “Luckily the homeowner was alerted by smoke detectors and evacuated, so that takes the primary search component out of it, that we knew everybody was safe.”
He says there were no injuries to occupants or firefighters. There was extensive damage to the home, and it is not habitable at this time.
Mutual aid included Abington, Whitman, Hingham, Pembroke, and Norwell at the scene. Holbrook provided station coverage.
“It was difficult, because as always, we’re short on manpower, arriving with six initial people on the crew. The second alarm was struck to relieve them as a safety issue,” said Heaney. “There was a large volume of fire present, the cold conditions, and just the amount of people you need on the fire ground to operate safely.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
