Brockton Mayor Robert Sullivan observed Greek Independence Day with a ceremony on Friday.
During the ceremony, Vasilios “Bill” Kafkas, of the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of New England, spoke of the contributions Greeks have made to our culture.
Rev. Romanos Karanos, of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, discussed the links between Greece’s struggle for independence and the American Revolution.
Sullivan also highlighted his family’s links to the city’s Greek community.
The ceremony concluded with a raising of the Greek flag in front of City Hall.
