North Quincy High School was placed on lockdown Friday morning.
School Superintendent Kevin Mulvey and Principal Keith Ford say that at around 10:30 am, a student reported that they had overheard students discussing having a weapon in school, specifically a gun, and a possible threat to the school.
School Administration and police were notified immediately and the school was put into lockdown while a search was conducted for evidence of a weapon.
Mulvey and Ford say parents were notified about the lockdown via School Messenger shortly before 11 a.m., and the students who had the conversation were identified, and their parents notified, so they could be interviewed by investigators.
Police conducted an initial search which determined that no weapon was present in North Quincy High School.
Students were then dismissed, one classroom at a time, beginning around 12:30 p.m.
Another search was then conducted with the use of K-9 units to determine that no weapon was present.
School officials say that the Quincy Police Department is “continuing to investigate the incident and we will update you when the investigation is complete.”
