On March 10th, the Plymouth County Commissioners received one response out of five of the requests for proposal, or RFP’s. These were taken out, to look into potential uses for the 100-acre County Wood lot property, located off Camelot Drive in Plymouth.
That response is from Boston South Development.
They want to create an entertainment destination anchored by thoroughbred horse racing. WATD’s Bobbi Clark has more.
County Commissioner Jared Valanzola says one of the key officials of Boston South Development…
“Is an individual from Kentucky, or a company, I should say, from Kentucky, that has built and managed several thoroughbred horse racing properties in Kentucky,” said Valanzola. “Part of the interview process fleshed out that they believe there is a market place in Massachusetts, potentially for thoroughbred racing.”
As it relates to the County’s position, Valanzola says:
“We are going to enter into negotiations with them about the highest and best use for the County,” said Valanzola. “As it relates to other permitting and other regulations that would go into that—that’s going to be up to them to do their due diligence—and make sure they get all the necessary approvals at the state and town level in order to continue going forward. Should they not, obviously the deal with the County would fall apart.”
And, there is a local connection…
“Loring Tripp chaired the Plymouth Planning Board, has extensive experience—was a part of their group. Personally, we liked that local connection as well.”
So the next step involves…
“Negotiations with them relative to a term lease, how long they want to be there for. As far as I’m concerned with the County, the number one goal is to make sure we get the best possible deal for Plymouth County,” said Valanzola. “And that will, in turn create a lot opportunities again, for the Town of Plymouth but for the greater region, as a whole.”
