The girls’ only league includes teams from Brockton, West Bridgewater, and Foxboro. Trooper Bucci was recently killed in the line of duty while trying to help a stranded motorist on Route 93.
State Police Colonel Chris Mason was in Brockton for the opening game. He says it’s a positive way for kids to meet their local police officers.
Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz lobbed up the opening tip for the games, which take place each Tuesday at the Brockton Boys & Girls Club. His office is funding the league.
There are boys’ divisions for the Unity League, which include Brockton, Boston, and Fall River.
