In Plymouth, WATD is doing what it usually does, and that is reminding folks that the town’s Annual and Special Town Meeting begins on Saturday, April 2nd at 8 AM, but what is unusual is that many will approach the event with a heavy heart, and that’s because of the sudden passing of Town Clerk Pearl Sears.
Bobbi Clark has more:
Town Moderator Steven Triffletti says the event…
“…will begin with a virtual gathering of Town Meeting members.”
But there is the possibility of Town Meeting voting against going forward by those who want a hybrid or an in person meeting:
“We have a vote to determine whether or not Town Meeting Members wish to participate remotely. But we’ve had had a number of Town Meeting Members who have expressed a concern about meeting in person, and it will be a majority vote of Town Meeting members.”
The Special Town Meeting warrant contains about 14 articles and 20 articles on the Annual:
“The most notable article would be Article 7, which is the annual budget.
And Triffletti says a number of motions have been received:
“Specifically, one motion to reduce the funding for the Charter Review Commission, another motion to reduce funding for the library.
Triffletti says Town Clerk Pearl Sears, was diligently working with him on preparations for Town Meeting before she passed away suddenly on March 25th.
“Pearl was patient, she was dedicated. She was very responsive to the Community and is certainly a great loss for her family, for her friends and to the Town of Plymouth.”
Also Town Meeting will be asked and will likely approve:
“…to determine whether or not, as Moderator I can cast one vote on a ballot for the appointment of Laurance Pizer as the temporary Town Clerk for the Annual and Special Town Meeting.”
