Pilgrim, the former Plymouth Nuclear Power Plant along Cape Cod Bay, has one million gallons of radioactive water inside the plant –the question is, how and where to get rid of it.
Holtec International, the company working on the clean-up is considering treating the water and discharging it into the bay.
Legislation filed by State Su Moran, would prevent the discharge of the water – she says there is also other legislation regarding this issue.
A meeting was held on Wednesday with a number of local and state officials, including Attorney General Maura Healey, who said Holtec cannot dump into the bay without updating their existing permit. Holtec is also considering evaporating the contaminated water or trucking it to a facility in another state.
