Memorial Day Events around the South Shore

Abington – A ceremony will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery.

Braintree – A ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Blue Hill Cemetery.

Brockton – The parade will take place Monday, stepping off from the War Memorial Building (156 West Elm Street) at 10 a.m. A ceremony will follow at City Hall.

Bridgewater – A ceremony will take place on the Town Common at the War Memorial at 10 a.m. on Monday morning.

Carver – The parade will be held on Monday, starting at 9:30 from the Sons of Veterans Hall to Crescent Road, then to Town Hall.

Cohasset – On Saturday, a Healing Field dedication ceremony will take place at 98 Summer Street. On Monday ceremonies will start from the Mealy Legion Post at 8 a.m. Stops will include the Green Gate, West Corner, Woodside, and Beachwood Cemeteries. After a 10 a.m. arrival at the Music Circus, a parade will include stops at the Central Cemetery and POW/MIA Square. A formal ceremony will follow at Veterans Memorial Park at noon.

Duxbury – A parade will take place on Monday at 10 a.m., from the Myles Standish Cemetery, Chestnut Street, ending at the First Parish Church, where a ceremony will follow at 11:15 a.m. A reception will follow at the American Legion Post.

East Bridgewater – The 153rd Memorial Day Commemoration will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday on the Town Common.

Halifax – The parade will start from the Halifax Country Club at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, with a route to Town Hall. The procession will include antique vehicles, the Jarheads Motorcycle Club, and a World War II motorcycle. A ceremony will follow at Town Hall, including Steven Littlefield, a Sgt. First Class in the National Guard.  

Hanover – A pancake breakfast will be held Monday at the St. Mary’s Parish from 7 to 9:30 a.m.

The parade will start at 10 a.m. from St. Mary’s. The route includes ceremonies at the Hanover Center Cemetery, Town Hall, and the Sylvester School World War II Memorial.  

Hingham – The annual observance will be held on Monday at Town Hall, starting at 11 a.m. The principal speaker will be U.S. Army Sergeant Thomas M. Lester, a Quincy native who was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom Sentinel. Veterans are invited to a buffet-style luncheon at the Grand Army Memorial Hall following the ceremony.

Hull – The annual parade will be held on Monday, stepping off at 9:15 a.m. from the High School, with a ceremony following at the cemetery at 10 a.m. 

Kingston – A parade and cookout will be held on Monday. The parade steps off at 10 a.m. from the World War II Memorial (across from the Cancun restaurant), proceeding onto Landing Road, Main Street, Green Street, and Evergreen Street. A ceremony will follow at Town Hall. A free community cookout will take place following the ceremony.

Marshfield – Remembrance ceremonies will start on Monday at 7:30 a.m. at the Winslow Cemetery. Observances will follow at the Cedar Grove, Marshfield Center, Marshfield Hills, Couch, and Standish Old Skunk Cemeteries.   

The parade forms at Library Plaza at 10 a.m., stepping off at 10:30 a.m. onto Ocean Street, proceeding to the Veterans’ Memorial Park. A ceremony will follow at 11 a.m. at the park.  

Norwell – A parade will form at 9 a.m. on Monday at the United Church of Christ on Main Street, proceeding to the Town Common, where a ceremony will follow at 10 a.m. Speakers will include State Senator Patrick O’Connor, and Richard Tedeschi.

Pembroke – The annual parade takes place on Monday, starting at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Center and Hobomock Streets. The procession will travel on Center Street to the Town Center in front of the First Church.

Plymouth – The parade starts at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, it will form on Memorial Drive at 9 a.m. The procession will turn left onto Water Street, left onto South Park Street, and left onto Court Street. A ceremony will follow in front of Memorial Hall, with a reading of the Gettysburg Address and a wreath-laying ceremony at the World War II Memorial. The parade will continue south to the Korea and Vietnam War Memorials, and the World War I Memorial at the Town Brook Bridge. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremonies will be at Memorial Hall.

Quincy – The parade takes place on Monday, stepping off at 10:30 a.m. from the Quincy Credit Union, 100 Quincy Ave., down Hancock Street, Quincy Center, and Sea Street.

The parade ends at the Mt. Wollaston Cemetery with the annual observance from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Speakers will include Mayor Thomas Koch, Nick Lavery, a U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Two, and active-duty member of the Army Special Forces, Green Beret, and Christine Cugini, a Navy veteran and Quincy’s Director of Veterans.

Randolph – On Monday at 8:30 a.m., the Randolph Elks will conduct a ceremony in front of Town Hall. A ceremony will follow at 9 a.m. with the town and Veterans Council at the War Memorial. The featured speaker is U.S. Army Colonel Patrick McCarthy. He has served operational and combat tours in Kosovo, Iraq, Qatar, Syria, and Africa. Ceremonies will follow at the Central and St. Mary’s cemeteries.

Rockland – The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Rockland Veterans Memorial.

Scituate – The ceremonies begin at 8 a.m. on Monday with a flotilla from the Harbormaster’s Office honoring those lost at sea. The parade will form at 10 a.m. at Scituate Town Hall, proceeding down First Parish Road to Lawson Common. A ceremony will take place at 11:15 a.m.

Weymouth – On Sunday, a ceremony for Medal of Honor recipients will take place at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Wall. A wreath will be placed in the Fore River, off Wessagusset Beach at noon. Taps and a rifle salute will take place at noon at Great Hill in North Weymouth.

On Monday, a wreath placement will take place at 8 a.m. at Columbian Square. A Korean War Memorial ceremony will follow at 9:30 a.m. at Jackson Square. The parade steps off at 10:15 a.m. to Town Hall (from Broad Street to Middle Street).

The Memorial Day program will take place at 11 a.m. at the Ralph Talbot Amphitheatre next to Town Hall.

Whitman – The Whitman American Legion is hosting the 154th parade this year, forming on Monday at 9 a.m. on Court Street. The parade will step off at 9:30 a.m.

West Bridgewater – The commemorative service will take place on Monday, starting at 10 a.m. at War Memorial Park.
