A Brockton man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison following his conviction on drug trafficking charges.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says that 28-year-old Cody Goncalves had earlier pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin, 400 grams or more of fentanyl, cocaine, cocaine base, oxycodone and marijuana; possession with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin; possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl, cocaine, cocaine base and marijuana; being a felon in possession of ammunition; and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense.
Charges were the result of an investigation that began in the fall of 2018 into a “violent Brockton drug crew” headed by his brother, Djuna Goncalves.
The investigation determined that the brothers worked with others to distribute large quantities of fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, cocaine base and marijuana throughout southeastern Massachusetts from a base of operations on Addison Ave. in Brockton.
Several Boston-based drug suppliers were also targeted by the investigation.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says that investigators seized large quantities of heroin, fentanyl, cash and a loaded firearm from Cody Goncalves, who had a previous been conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm and who had distributed drugs while on pre-trial release from a state drug charge.
Goncalves will also served four years of supervised release.
Indictments were handed down against 17 defendants, 16 have now been sentenced.
His brother, Djuna Goncalves has pleaded guilty and is scheduled to be sentenced on June 30.
