The Duxbury Select Board met to consider the appointment of an Acting Town Manager.
The Board’s Chair, Fernando Guitart, says Town Manager Rene Read will be out on medical leave for the next four to eight weeks.
“During this period, our objectives are clear. One, is to ensure that Rene is allowed to focus 100 percent on his recovery and getting better,” said Guitart. “The last thing we want to do is have him doing part recovery and part work. That’s the number one objective – ensure he can focus on that. The second one is just as equally as important, that the town operates business as usual.”
The Board voted unanimously in choosing Finance Director John Q. Adams to serve as the Acting Town Manager.
Board member Amy MacNab on the appointment:
“I just want to make it public that Rene agrees with this. He thinks that this is the best course of action moving forward. We’re not swooping in and doing something that he is not in full agreement with,” said MacNab. “I want to make sure that the public is aware of that.”
Adams was appointed to a term of 60 days, or the return of Read, whichever is sooner.
“I think it’s a really, really, great smart decision to do this, to get an acting Town Manager, to allow Rene to do the recovery that he needs,” said vice-chair Cindy Fiorini. “I fully support having John fill that spot.”
A meeting will take place Tuesday with department heads to notify them of the vote, and to work on any pending issues.
