Chico needs someone who can devote the time into training him and bonding with him. He is very strong, so he needs a firm hand and someone to be his Alpha. He has been improving greatly on leash, and is VERY eager to please. Chico needs an owner who either works from home, is able to take him along to work, or doesn’t work long hours. Chico really wants to be alongside someone as much as possible, he loves attention. Crate training would be ideal for Chico when he is left alone. Chico would do great being the only dog in the home. He could, however live with another dog if their interactions went well. Chico has been out with female dogs of his own size and has acted playful with them, but he did show slight resource guarding towards one dog/one person with toys/objects he likes. This has NOT been a frequent issue at all, in fact most of the time he is more submissive and tolerant.
Chico needs someone who can firmly correct this behavior if it arises again. He would excel with an individual or couple that has large breed/bully breed experience. Someone that can give Chico lots of love while also providing structure/boundaries would be ideal. He needs rules, and cannot be treated like a child. He is an exceptionally sweet boy who was never given the right training, tools, or environment to thrive. At the shelter they call him a big doofus, because that’s what he is! He is always smiling (or barking) and wagging his tail wanting attention. Thank you for taking the time to read about Chico.
