A life sentence was handed down to a man who was on the Massachusetts Most Wanted List.
The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office says 50-year-old Cornel Bell was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility for parole for the murder of his one-time girlfriend in her Weymouth home in August 2017.
Bell was found guilty of murder in the first degree for stabbing 33-year-old Michelle Clarke 15 times after ambushing her in her home.
The District Attorney’s Office says Bell fled to Cape Cod and eventually Florida.
An investigation involving Weymouth Police, Massachusetts State Police, US Marshals, and law enforcement officials in Florida commenced and Bell was located a construction site in that state.
He fled once confronted at the construction site and was apprehended after a brief pursuit.
Bell has been held without bail since that time.
First-degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole eligibility for adults in Massachusetts.
