Please help us share Benny to get him a furever home!!
Ben is a Great Dane, Hound, Lab mix that is only about 16 months old. He is the sweetest dog and loves everyone he meets. He just wants to be with his people and cuddle. Buddy and Friends Animal Rescue tell us when Ben first came to them he was a tough one. He has come a long way and they feel as though he will only keep getting better. He used to have severe separation anxiety. When Ben was a puppy, he got too big for his owners and they locked him in a room by himself. At only 8 months old they took him to the vet to have him put down because he started tearing up the house due to just wanting to be with his people and to be loved. It made him panic to be locked up all by himself. They abandoned him at the vet office and luckily a rescue they called stepped in and agreed to take him. He used to have severe panic attacks in his kennel. He doesn’t have those anymore and rarely barks when his foster family put him in to leave. He sleeps in his kennel every night and goes in when no one is home. He is on medication to help regulate his anxiety and energy. He is much less anxious than he used to be. He still doesn’t like loud trucks and reacts to them but he calms down much faster than he used to. Other things he reacted to when he first arrived, he now just walks by without a reaction or only looking. For the first few weeks, he would whine during his walks. He has gained his confidence back and enjoys going for walks and adventures and he is adapting to change much easier these days. Ben does need to be walked daily — he does well on a leash and knows his commands. It helps keep his energy level and then he just lounges around all day. Ben will need a fenced in yard. He truly is one of the sweetest, loving, and most snuggly dogs you will ever meet. Ben loves other dogs and he has lived with a cat previously. He is great with kids and would probably do best with older kids (he is a gentle giant weighing in at around 70 pounds) and he does require a fairly quiet household. He feeds off your energy and a busy household with young kids is not ideal for him. He hasn’t had the easiest life but seeing how far this dog has come just shows how resilient he is. Ben is truly a great dog that is now able to lead a normal life. Everyone that meets him absolutely loves him. Please help us spread the word about Ben – he really will make his new family complete and extremely happy. All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines and microchipped.
