With hot temperatures around the South Shore, Pembroke Police had a way for kids to cool off this summer.
Pembroke Deputy Police Chief Wendy LaPierre was all smiles driving around town.
With School Resource Officer Steve Kirby, the duo were handing out tickets, for free ice cream.
“We all love it,” said LaPierre. “We are so grateful to Peter Brown, and the Pembroke Chamber of Commerce for allowing us this opportunity, and of course, The Dairy Twist for donating the ice cream to these kids.”
At the Town Beach, they met Annabel Kimmett.
“I like ice cream, I like all flavors,” said Kimmett. “It’s cool.”
Six-year-old Hunter and Callen Stearns got free ice creams as well. Kyla Stearns was excited, she heard about the program on social media.
“I love it! I think it’s great,” said Stearns. “They just finished up with swimming, it’s an awesome treat. Maybe I’ll take them later.”
Kirby and LaPierre were out on patrol, and in the Queens Brook neighborhood, they found five-year-old Ronan, and three-year-old Landon, riding their bikes with helmets. They were joined by their baby sitter, and one-year-old Reagan.
“I love getting out of the office, seeing kids, and seeing kids doing the right things,” said LaPierre. “We want everybody to do well. The elderly, kids, parents. We want everybody to be happy.”
WATD reporter Gill Johnston asked her what the most rewarding part of the job is.
“I think growing up in this community, and then being able to give back,” said LaPierre. “I love Pembroke, it’s just an awesome town to work in.”
They hope to continue the program well beyond the summer.
