A boat had an encounter with a whale off the coast of Plymouth.

The Harbormaster Department says that at approximately 10 a.m. Sunday they received a call that a whale breached and landed on the bow of a small 19’ vessel in the White Horse Beach area.

A Harbormaster boat responded to check on the vessel occupants.

The operator reported no injuries and no major damage that affected the sea worthiness of the vessel.

The harbormaster says it was brought back to the Plymouth Boat Ramp and hauled safely.

All information on the incident was forwarded to the Massachusetts Environmental Police for further investigation.

The Harbormaster recommends a distance of at least 100 yards to minimize potential interactions with whales and says that while this interaction is rare, it serves a reminder that they can be dangerous for both boaters and whales.
