In Plymouth, School Superintendent Chris Campbell commemorated the opening of the school year with a kick-off at North High School Monday morning — welcoming 1,400 staff members – 90 of them are new teachers – who will teach just under 7,200 students.
Those students begin the new school year today.
WATD’s Bobbi Clark has more:
School Superintendent Dr. Chris Campbell talked about the safety of school buildings:
“We have emergency response plans in place and protocols and we exercise and drill those, and we do professional development for our staff, and our students,” said Campbell. “We evaluate that on a monthly basis.”
And Campbell discussed redistricting, a topic that has been a concern of many parents:
“The recommendation is to continue conversations into September, continue to have forums, get some answers to questions that families may have before we ultimately make the decision on whether or not we would redistrict next year.”
Erik Cioffi, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, talks about the return to normalcy after COVID restrictions:
“I think it’s something we’ve all been looking forward to,” said Cioffi. “I came here just at the start of the pandemic and watching the progression to get back to what we’ve all wanted to be at, has been a big relief.”
School Committee Chair Kim Savery:
“As long as things stay the same, it’ll be the student and teachers options to wear masks.”
And a highlight of the event is the Inspiration Awards—made to those nominated by their colleagues. The recipients are:
Dori Kondracki, Amy Strohschneider, Tara Frare, Jake Panek and Jodi LaFountain.
