In Plymouth, the Select Board, at their meeting Tuesday, the 31st, voted unanimously that the upcoming Town Meeting scheduled for October 15th, be in-person.
Town Moderator Steven Triffletti disagreed advising that the meeting be a virtual one. This would be the town’s seventh virtual Town Meeting.
WATD’s Bobbi Clark has more:
Select Board Chair Betty Cavacco:
“After all the data that we received, and all the information, and even advice from legal counsel, we made the decision that Town Meeting needs to be back in person.”
Part of the information includes a town-sponsored email survey of all Town Meeting members concerning the format of the upcoming Town Meeting.
“We sent out our own survey and it was about 63, 64% that wanted in-person and 38% that didn’t.”
Town Moderator Steven Triffletti intends to conduct his own survey. However, there is the possibility that he could again postpone Town Meeting:
“I have postponed Town Meeting five times at the start of the shut-down, and that was authorized under the legislation that was enacted at that time. Currently there is statutory authority to continue for up to 14 days.”
However, Select Board Cavacco says that will not be allowed:
“We won’t allow him to postpone. We have an Assistant Town Moderator and we have a Town Clerk that can take over Town Meeting without issue.”
