Over two hundred local veterans were able to get together recently at a special luncheon at ALBA on 53, in Hanover.
Norwell Veterans Agent Dave Osborne says they call it the “Oldest Veterans Lunch,” and the oldest guest this year was 99-year-old Wally Rockwell, Sr.
The event was sponsored for the ninth year in a row, through the generosity of a Norwell family that wishes to remain anonymous.
Norwell veteran Arthur Lunny, served in the Coast Guard, in New York City, right in Manhattan.
The “decor” was pretty basic, too.
He says there were also some “quirks” inside the building as well.
But, Lunny says the exposure to different people, and cultures was an eye-opener for someone who’d grown up in the Greater Boston area.
Norwell Veterans agent Dave Osborne says they hosted over two hundred attendees this year.
Norwell resident and Navy veteran, David Turner, an attorney, has served as Town Moderator, Selectman, and at the state level, an Assistant Attorney General under Ed Brooke.
Turner, 91, says that starting from his childhood and during his military service, the ocean has always been a big part of his life.
