Cohasset Police Chief William Quigley says a standoff ended with a suspect in custody. Two children in the home at the time of the incident were not harmed.

The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Brien Buckley, was transported to South Shore Hospital for a mental health evaluation. He’ll face numerous felony charges in Quincy District Court. Quigley said Buckley is known to the police department.
It all started earlier Sunday afternoon, when police say Buckley tried to break into the lobby of the Cohasset Police Station with a chainsaw.
Quigley says a civilian desk attendant was working inside the station, and was able to get to safety.
Buckley fled the scene, and drove over a small tree on the lawn of the police station.
Police followed him to his home on Cushing Street. He barricaded himself inside, prompting a response from the MetroLEC SWAT, and resources from surrounding communities. His two children, ages three and four, were inside the home at the time.
At times, Buckley could be seen throwing objects from a second-floor window that included toys, blood-soaked toilet paper, and a knife.
Quigley says they negotiated with Buckley for hours. When police did not know where the children were, they made the decision to enter the home.
Buckley resisted arrest, and a taser was used. He was taken into custody and walked out of the home with police.
A mother and a grandfather took custody of the children.
Buckley faces nine charges that include assault by means of a dangerous weapon (chainsaw), three counts of damage to property, two counts of child endangerment, resisting arrest, and wanton destruction of a tree.
